Como Lake is a beautiful alpine lake located in the San Juan Mountains, near Silverton, Colorado. It's situated at an elevation of approximately 11,900 feet and is accessible via a 4x4 road or a strenuous hike.

The lake is surrounded by stunning mountain scenery, including the iconic 14,000-foot peak of Mount Eolus. Visitors to the lake can enjoy fishing for trout or simply taking in the beautiful views.

One of the unique features of Como Lake is the historic Como Townsite, located nearby. The townsite was once a bustling mining community during the late 1800s and early 1900s, but today, all that remains are a few scattered ruins and artifacts.

The basin is accessible via a dirt road that is suitable for high-clearance vehicles, although it can be rough and rocky in places. Once at the basin, visitors can explore the area via several hiking trails that lead to nearby peaks and other alpine destinations. Some popular hikes in the area include Handies Peak, Sloan Lake, and the American Basin Trail.

In addition to its natural beauty, American Basin has historical significance, as it was once the site of mining activity in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Today, visitors can still see the ruins of old mining structures and equipment in the area.

American Basin is located near the town of Lake City and is a popular destination for hikers, photographers, and nature enthusiasts.

Today, the Golconda Boarding House is a popular tourist attraction and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
